::Down to Business::

With the weekend upon me & 2 full days off, I'm torn between catching up on rest & spending time in the studio.

I began a project; a very loose interpretation of VanGogh's Starry, Starry Night. I have to laugh. Initially looking at this piece I thought this will be easy. (<--???)

Long story short, I have considered ripping this up twice.

Here's my predicament: I'm in the mood to use orangey/red & green... now what?

A few sheets of cotton paper & 45 minutes later, I've got something.

A little something anyway. I'm looking forward to this weekend; I will stretch the few hours I'll have to continue with this one. With a bit of luck, the kids will join me in the studio...

Repetition

Before your critical eye takes hold, let me explain. 

This was initially a blank canvas where I used a black sharpie to sketch my daughters face. I had no intention of adding color over a year ago when this was done; until 2 nights ago.

Same thing. Melted crayons, good company, John Mayer... And trying to figure out the rhythm with my heating tool & color. I have to remind myself during this process that the medium will do exactly what I need it to do, I simply need to tell it...

So the journey continues :)

Rich w/Imperfection

It's hard to sit back and be content with imperfection. Lighting is wrong, pixure not clear, too dark etc.

It's easy to DELETE or crumple up & toss in the trash something you've been working on for the past 2hours. Been there.

Lately, my lessons in the studio have forced me to embrace the beauty in imperfection. No chiseled lines, no formal training; just a big room with a rather large selection of tools to create something...

I'll invite you to put yourself out there and give something a try or 2 or 3 ;)

C'mon, give it a shot. Show Monday how you roll :)

Scrapbooking turned into photography turned into knitting/sewing which later became painting. All of the above are my obsessions, thankfully.

I am grateful there is a place where I can quietly disappear into this creative rhythm. No matter what the medium, I have found that I need this.

I was taught to keep myself in constant motion... Keep your hands busy Taj.

I will do just that. Here's to finding our rhythm today, it's Friday after all ;)

I'm learning about this medium - crayon wax. I have to remember that it will do exactly what I want it to do, I just have to move it in the right direction. I'm determined there is a method to this or perhaps, just the tincture of time.

Either way, I am bent on making progress. This weekend I will continue... til I get it.

At this point, you may be wondering where I'm going with all of this. I'm not sure yet. I know where my soul is going with this: portraits. These little trials are helping me understand this medium a bit better.

Maybe I've figured out Christmas presents for this year? It's funny, I feel like these exercises allow me to indulge in colour therapy & my love for art. I would encourage you try, you may find it as addicting as I have...

Well Lovies, I'm off to buy more crayons ;)

Dalton's Valentine idea sparked a flame; the smell of melting wax is now a staple in the evenings here. Although it appears a bit elementary, it's the principle behind it that continues to keep bringing me back to the studio.

And of course, the ceremony involved. I'm in my comfy clothes-ies, hair up, window open, spring breeze coming through, the Fray filling in the empty space... ahhh, i.love.it.

Today, right now ---> Treat yourself to an emotional excursion ---> You deserve it.

Do it now my friend, it's been a long time coming :)

"Wanna come over for dinner? Bring your knitting, the guys can watch the race :) " You don't have to ask me twice. Chalupa, Mexican Fudge, Strawberry Short cake, Rocky Road ice cream cones & Cookies & Cream root beer floats... of course, I was reaching for Tums when I got home :)

I love that she lives so close.

I love that she wanted to learn how to knit.

And I love that we talk about everything at her kitchen table.

Among other things, Mom's Sneaky Noro Scarfy is coming along & I did pick up Michelle's Noro Scarfy to finish up. I pray this happens today. I'd like to get her care package out this week - say a prayer!

Duty calls my dears, but I'll check back in tomorrow. Finally got the whole blogging-from-my-phone thing down - Thank God!
